Manitoba Public Insurance Corporation
MPI Customer Service Centre
Project Description
The Manitoba Public Insurance Corporation desired a new type of Customer Service Centre to merge their Claims processes with the new Driver and Vehicle Licensing and Driver Testing functions. The new facility was to be a highly functional and flexible customer focused building. Environmental sustainability was a high priority and a LEED Silver building designation was targeted. The energy models indicate the building is 40% more efficient than that required by the Model National Energy Code. The Garage area of the MPIC Customer Service Centre houses vehicles which will sometimes be running, which by code requires a constant rate of exhaust and ventilation air. In order to capture some of the ‘wasted’ heat being exhausted out of the Garage on a continual basis and transfer it to the incoming cold ventilation air, a high efficiency reverse flow heat recovery ventilator (HRV) was used. The $12M Lexington location opened its doors in July 2010, one of five new customer service centres across Manitoba. Each new building is 4,088 square meters in area (2,718 m2 of office space and 1,370 m2 of garage).
