Project Description

This project was born out of a partnership between the University of Alberta and Alberta Health Services. This state-of-the-art health and learning facility is the first of its kind in Alberta. Located next to the Walter C. MacKenzie Health Sciences Center, the Edmonton Clinic Health Academy (ECHA) provides health sciences instructional and research functions. Hemisphere was part of a joint venture with another consultant for the mechanical portion of this project.

The ECHA is operated by the University of Alberta and provides class, lecture and office space for students in medicine, dentistry and nursing. It also offers state-of-the-art simulation suites with hi-fidelity mannequins to allow students to experience medical situations and emergencies not possible with live actors or patients. Multi-purpose rooms in the ECHA can simulate Emergency Responder conditions, mass casualty, or even military combat medicine. As part of the University's commitment to sustainability, the ECHA has obtained LEED Silver status.
