Project Description

In addition to MCW Hemisphere completing numerous projects at the Walter C. Mackenzie Health Sciences Centre (WCM) including the original Stollery Children’s Hospital, we have been deeply involved with the WCM from its inception.

MCW Hemisphere successfully completed the mechanical and electrical design of the new IMRI within the WCM Surgical Suites. This new IMRI project consisted of the complete mechanical and electrical design of a new portable MRI system stationed adjacent to the operating room. Mounted on rails, this MRI was designed to be moved into the OR giving surgeons an instant view of their patient without having to go through the trauma of leaving surgery.

Currently this MRI services one OR however provisions have been made for the future addition of a second OR. Mechanical and electrical systems were specially designed to support this new technology while fully integrating with the existing infrastructure. Special consideration was given to the ventilation systems to ensure positive pressures are utilized to maintain a sterile environment while the MRI is in use and reduce the spread of infection to protect the patients.
