Alberta Health Services
University of Alberta Hospital, Pediatric Emergency Department Expansion
Project Description
The Pediatric Emergency Department Expansion project consisted of creating a pediatric emergency department separate from the Adult Emergency department. This expansion included the addition of 23 pediatric emergency treatment spaces including 2 isolation rooms, new patient treatment rooms, and additional space for staff and support facility.
The basement level houses the entire facility support infrastructure including air handling units, electrical and communication distribution panels. The first floor contains the patient care areas and the care staff support areas. Finally the third floor is the interstitial floor containing the building infrastructure routing for air handling, plumbing, electrical, and communications systems.
Phase 1 was the addition of a new building to the existing hospital; the integrated building test is complete, and the new building occupied and fully functional. Phase 2 & 3 involved small renovations to adjoining areas, completed mid 2012.
