Alberta Health Services
Stollery Pediatric Care Centre
Project Description
MCW Hemisphere provided the mechanical engineering services for the Stollery Children’s Centre in the Walter C. Mackenzie Health Science Centre. This project involved a major reconstruction within the Walter C. Mackenzie Hospital to create a health centre to serve the specialized needs of sick children. The project is in excess of 6,500 m² and was constructed over several phases. This facility houses all functions necessary to provide complete pediatric medical care including separate admitting, support offices, patient rooms, NICU, PICU and surgical suites.
Mechanical engineering services included upgrading existing building infrastructure to meet the new program needs. MCW Hemisphere has been consistently involved in projects within the Stollery Children’s Centre from its initial construction to numerous upgrades and modernizations over the facilities lifetime.
- Major phased redevelopment of the WCM 4th floor to transition the unit from general patient care to a highly specialized area designed for a variety of pediatric patients
- Highly innovative surroundings were designed to remove the typical “hospital” feeling and create spaces reflective of young patients
- Significant mechanical and electrical infrastructure was required with respect to patient/family comfort, infection control, patient monitoring, communication systems, specialty water, etc.
- Project required extensive work within Interstitial Spaces (ISS) and utilizing existing mechanical and electrical infrastructure
