Alberta Health Services
Royal Alexandra Hospital, Robbins Pavilion
Project Description
The Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) is one of the largest hospitals in Alberta. This 1000+ bed facility offers medical and surgical services for patients stretching from Edmonton’s downtown to western and northern Canada.
The Robbins Pavilion (33,296 m2) added 291 beds and houses the Lois Hole Hospital for Women, which is a “hospital within a hospital” that provides leading-edge women's health programs, research and education. This addition also included the Learning Center which incorporates a lecture auditorium, classrooms and other facilities. In addition to the Lois Hole Hospital for Women, the Robbins Pavilion offers Cardiac Services and additional inpatient beds for Medicine and Surgery.
MCW Hemisphere provided mechanical and electrical engineering services for this facility. As part of the electrical design consultant's responsibility for this project, Hemisphere organized and led a special design process for integrated communications and technology design which included all user interfaced systems. This design process involved End User's in defining functionality required and then involved Owner's facility and support personnel in defining the components (pieces) which were to be utilized to deliver the defined functionality. At the conclusion of the ICT process, MCW Hemisphere produced documentation for competitive tender of the selected configurations.
