Project Description
For this mechanical and electrical building systems upgrades and modernization project, MCW Hemisphere provided engineering services for mechanical system upgrades to seven Olds College facility buildings. The upgrades were part of life cycle replacements with a mandate to reduce operating costs. MCW acted as the Prime Consultant for this project. Lighting was upgraded in several buildings to energy efficient fluorescent luminaries appropriate to the area, reducing the light level to meet current IES recommendation. The boiler upgrades were part of the major mechanical infrastructure upgrade project.
The primary focus was to address the life cycle replacement of the equipment and improve operating costs. Heating Plants were upgraded in five buildings from standard efficiency constant flow plants to variable flow hybrid heating plants. In each building, the existing boilers were replaced with a combination of high-efficiency condensing and mid-efficiency boilers. Existing constant flow pumps were replaced with variable flow pumps and heating plant controls were upgraded to maximize the efficiency of the hybrid plant. All upgrades were completed while the buildings were occupired and the heatings systems were operational during the heating season.
