Grande Prairie School District
Mother Theresa School
Project Description
MCW Hemisphere completed the mechanical and electrical design for this 44,734 ft2 facility. Mother Theresa School was completed in 2009 and has achieved LEED® Silver certification. The mechanical system design was an integral part of the LEED® objectives.
Mechanical systems were designed to ensure LEED® Silver certification and included water use reduction by means of low flow showers, faucets, water closets and waterless urinals, effective building envelope design using high performance glazing walls and roof assemblies, and optimization of energy performance by means of building envelope design, 85% efficient boilers, heat recovery systems for outside air/exhaust air, displacement ventilation air system, energy efficient motors and variable frequency drives on heating.
The electrical design included telephone service and distribution, lighting, fire alarm and smoke detection system, intrusion detection system, and sound and intercommunication systems. In an effort to minimize and control energy consumption, electrical systems of the school utilize energy efficient lamps and ballasts, multi-level local lighting control, time and temperature control of car park receptacle operation, and motion sensor control of lighting in all washrooms.
