City of Burnaby
Burnaby Public Library – Tommy Douglas Branch
Project Description
This library incorporates several sustainable features, including natural daylighting, a green roof, geoexchange heating, and an underground cistern that collects rainwater from the roof, which is in turn used for landscape irrigation.
Electrical Systems Description:
MCW’s varied lighting designs suit the requirements of individual spaces, such as conference and seminar rooms, catalogue research areas, computer use areas, A/V rooms, general reading areas, and, most importantly, the library stacks. Careful lighting control ensures proper illumination for the various visual tasks, with particular attention paid to horizontal and vertical illuminance and glare control. Access to online journals, databases, and catalogue systems is a critical component. The robust IT design protects from potential damage and/or interruptions. The cabling design provides flexible use, and anticipates future needs and technologies.
