University of Alberta
Bruce Peel Special Collections Relocation
Project Description
MCW provided electrical and mechanical design services for the relocation of the University of Alberta’s Rare Book collection in the Rutherford Library including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection. The mechanical design recognized that humidity and environmental control was of critical importance on this project. The environmental conditions were set to achieve a Class A Collection space.
To achieve this, a multitude of space sensors were utilized throughout the building to record a combination of temperature, RH, and CO2. Sensors inside of collection spaces consisted of only temperature and RH. A separate air sampling system was used to draw and analyze air from collection spaces to determine levels of CO2, Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOCs), and Particulate levels.
