Government of Canada
Coutts Sweetgrass Port of Entry
Project Description
The Coutts Sweetgrass border crossing consists of a single building that straddles the border between Coutts, Alberta and Sweetgrass, Montana. This project includes a 7000 m2; Port Building, four separate Inspection Buildings, Inspection Booths and Site Developments. It consists of a customs area, offices, staff areas, secure holding cells and storage. The schedule for the Coutts/Sweetgrass Border Crossing was challenged by the desire to maintain the existing border crossing and its inherent high level of security while building the new facility. This was resolved by providing an integrated phasing plan with the Government and Builders so that clear construction boundaries were defined and additional security added as required to secure the boundaries. The building was the first US-Canada border station to be LEED® certified.
