 MCW Custom Energy Solutions, is currently seeking a self-motivated, hardworking On-Site Construction Manager, to join the Comox Office. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is interested in pursuing a career in environmental energy savings and is looking to gain valuable hands-on work experience in a fast paced engineering consultancy.

Position:  On-Site Construction Manager 

Location:  Comox, BC 

Responsibilities:

The Construction Manager will be working with a municipal client and will be responsible for:

  • The overall coordination of all construction activities for the projects.
  • Working with the Project Manager to ensure that projects are delivered on a timely basis.
  • Supervising and expediting the work of sub-contractors.
  • Coordinating with the owner and building occupants for access, as well as construction issues as the majority of the work will take in occupied areas.
  • Ensuring compliance with project scope, schedule and specifications.
  • Working with the Project Manager to review tender and bid documents.
  • Ensuring all relevant permits, documents and procedures are in place prior to the start of work.
  • Interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
  • Coordinating inspections by the Consultants or Measure Managers. 
  • Identification of work that does not conform to specification and ensuring that technical problems are resolved on a timely basis.
  • Acting as the Construction Safety Coordinator for the project. 
  • Working with the Project Manager to determine contract changes and changes to the specification.
  • Preparing written reports and other documentation concerning project status.

Education

  • Post-Secondary degree or diploma in Engineering, Construction Management, or Building Technology or other relevant technical diploma is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer, C.​E.​T.​, or PMP is an asset.
  • Trade Qualification Ticket in electrical or mechanical related construction trade.
  • Previous Supervisory Training, Asbestos Awareness, Fall Protection and First Aid is an asset.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Ideally 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Experience working in the commercial / institutional construction environment
  • Effectiveness in the areas of construction safety and productivity
  • Knowledge of OH&S regulations and related building codes

Required Skills

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal 
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines/successful completion of deliverables
  • Established track record of supervising complex designs into implementation
  • Ability to understand the demands of an institutional based client and how these requirements affect the work 
  • Excellent time management and coordination skills and the ability to work under pressure
  • Analytical, thorough, resourceful and detail-oriented
  • Team and client service-focused
  • Access to a car and a valid Class 5 B.C.Driver’s License

 

Bona fide Job Requirement

This role will require a minimum of Reliability Clearance under the Contract Security Program administered by Public Services and Procurement Canada. Therefore, of successful clearance may be required.
