Description: The 39 government buildings in the capital of Canada’s newest territory consume $5.5 million of energy and water annually. MCW will be providing a savings-guaranteed and fully-financed energy performance program. The buildings include educational and health care facilities, office buildings, and residential buildings in the city of Iqaluit. This program is a key component of the Nunavut Energy Management Program and the Save 10 initiative.
The implementation program will include:
- Investment grade feasibility study to determine overall program direction
- Mechanical, building envelope and water conservations measures
- Lighting retrofit and advanced web-based lighting controls
- Energy management control systems for ease of systems control and monitoring
- Renewable energy including solar thermal heating
- Systems re-commissioning for operations and maintenance upgrading
- Operator training for energy and new technology awareness and staff/student workshops
- Sustained systems monitoring for guaranteed energy savings

- Steam heating expansion/absorption cooling campus-wide for long-term cost avoidance and environmental benefits
- Lighting retrofit for efficiency and design improvement
- Energy management control systems for ease of systems control and monitoring
- Cooling extension and conversion to avoid additional equipment costs
- Systems recommissioning for operations and maintenance upgrading
- Operator training for energy and new technology awareness and staff/student workshops
- Sustained systems monitoring for guaranteed energy savings |

The design will incorporate the latest standards and criteria set out by the Utility. The station will consist of one (1) 161/138kV line in and one (1) 161/138kV line out, a 161/138kV ring bus, two (2) 24/32/40 MVA, 161/138kV-25kV transformer banks, four (4) 25kV feeders with provision for two (2) 25kV capacitor banks. Station design includes provision for a temporary connection of a 138kv mobile substation to either the 25kV Bus A or to 25kV Bus B. |
